—Because love, in its truest form, deserves to be held close.
This is the sixth story in our series 100 Dogs, 100 Love Stories, where we explore how pets and humans carve unbreakable bonds into the fabric of time. Today, we wander the sun-baked lavender fields of Provence, where a Corgi and his owner rediscovered that love’s map has no dead ends—only detours back to each other.
Lavender Tracks
Provence, France, 2020
In the heart of Provence, a spirited Pembroke Corgi named Louie lived with his owner, Claire. Their favorite spot was the Lavender Junction, a small wooden bench by the fields where paths crossed. Here, Claire would read or paint, and Louie would sit beside her, his tail wagging gently. It was their special place, a junction of love and companionship.
One stormy night, Louie disappeared. Claire searched everywhere, calling his name, but he was gone. Heartbroken, she waited at the Lavender Junction every day, hoping he would find his way back.
Months passed, and Claire’s hope began to fade. But one spring morning, as the lavender fields bloomed, a mud-caked figure emerged from the edge of the field. It was Louie, limping slightly but unmistakable. Claire’s heart leaped with joy as she ran to him. Louie’s tail wagged furiously, and he nuzzled her hand, his eyes filled with the same love.
From that day on, Claire and Louie never left each other’s side again. Their bond, forged through loss and reunion, grew stronger than ever. At the Lavender Junction, where their paths had crossed once more, they found their way back to each other, proving that love always finds a way home.
