Autumn woodlands in the UK look like a postcard. But for dogs, everything on the ground – from acorns to puddles – can hide a danger. Knowing these 5 most common autumn walking hazards is the first step to a safe season.
Every year between September and November, vets across the UK see dogs sickened by seasonal hazards. From acorn poisoning to lungworm infection, these are problems that happen year after year – and most can be avoided with just a little extra awareness.
Danger 1: Acorns and conkers – harmless-looking but potentially deadly
Acorns typically start falling from September to October, with some areas seeing acorn season last until December. Conkers ripen and fall from late September to October.
Why they're dangerous:
1、Acorns contain tannins that are toxic to dogs – green acorns have higher tannin levels than brown ones
